Itinerary
1 Tongyuan Gate
A Chongqing city walk is about observing, and wandering with curiosity — the real scenery is in the streets.
Start near Tongyuan gate and visit the oldest city gate in Chongqing. In ancient times, this was the dividing line between Chongqing and its surrounding areas, but now the city has expanded dozens of times.
2 Linhua Road
Head downhill through quiet roads like Huayi and Linhua, the most insane part of this tour, Blocks where 15-story apartments without elevators. the front door was on the 8th floor, connected to sky bridges that led to staircases clinging to hillsides.
But don’t worry about getting lost, we’ll show you all the hidden paths.
This is the craziest neighborhood in Chongqing. Due to the complex terrain, the city is built on hills, so it is full of long overpasses, stairs, hidden paths everywhere, and the roads grow like branches.
3 Auditorium
The Chongqing Auditorium is a magnificent Chinese-style building. The square beside it is perhaps the largest flat area in the city center. This is a place where locals come to relax. You can freely watch the senior citizens dancing square dance and the children playing joyfully here.
4 Zhongshan 4th Road
Zhongshan Fourth Road once witnessed the most glorious historical period of Chongqing. During WW II, Chongqing served as the temporary capital of China, and many historical events took place on this street. However, today, it remains a beautiful tree-lined path.
5 The Crown Escalator
The Crown Big Escalator, an integral part of Chongqing’s public transportation, was constructed to connect the city’s central area with the old railway station at the foot of the mountain. It is the second-longest escalator in the world. Only in Chongqing can you experience an escalator that serves as public transportation and even requires swiping a bus card. This vividly showcases the three-dimensionality of this city.
6 Caiyuanba Train Station
Caoyuanba Railway Station, once a bustling transportation hub symbolizing Chongqing’s vibrant traffic status, now lies abandoned. The adjacent wholesale market, which used to be filled with the hustle and bustle of merchants and customers, is now deserted. However, this desolation exudes an anti – utopian charm reminiscent of the millennium era. As you stroll along this path towards the riverside, a breathtaking view unfolds before you. It’s as if the city reveals its hidden cross – section.
7 Sujiaba Overpass
Sujiaba Interchange is the wildest overpass in Chongqing. Vehicles have to travel along a circular road, making a full 360 – degree turn. The overpass is even taller than the adjacent 20 – plus – story building.The sight of cars spiraling around this colossal structure against the backdrop of the cityscape is both awe – inspiring and a testament to Chongqing’s unique urban design, which continuously pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in creating transportation infrastructure.
8 Houbao
Houbao is an old local residential area teeming with the vibrant atmosphere of daily life. Now, as urban renewal progresses, it’s radiating new allure.
Here, you can observe the locals’ authentic living. The riverside park offers a wonderful view of the city’s river scenery. What’s more, it’s a great place to taste authentic Chongqing cuisine, from spicy hot pot to savory noodles, delighting your taste buds.
