Itinerary
XinTianDi
XinTianDi, once a residential alley, is now one of modern China’s most successful real estate projects. In this stylish shopping hub, we will discover some hidden traditional Shikumen buildings, which once housed two-thirds of Shanghainese at their peak.
FengYu Lane
A tranquil alley in its original form, tucked away from the bustling streets outside. Many locals still call it home – old aunties hang clothes in the passageways, while grandpas navigate bikes through the narrow lanes, bringing their grandchildren home from school. Such a vivid snapshot of local life!
Former French Park
The sunken gardens and grand fountain might make you wonder if you’re in Shanghai or Paris! Despite wars and social upheavals over the past century, most of the park remains beautifully preserved. Here, you’ll find vibrant activities like saxophone playing, Tai Chi, and Chinese yo-yo performances.
Boutique Cafe
We will enjoy a coffee/beer/drink in a vintage cafe. It occupies a two-story European-style building and is filled with retro charm and a large collection of vintage items. This historic spot, featured in many famous Chinese dramas, was once home to China’s founding father who overthrew the imperial government.
TianZiFang
TianZiFang, once a century-old residential alley, became an artist hub in the 1990s with galleries and studios. Today, it’s well known among visitors for its artsy vibe, and it is home to many boutique shops and arts & crafts studios.
Chinese Arts and Crafts Experience
We have found a few unique arts and crafts studios hidden in TianZiFang’s winding lanes. Pick your favorite Chinese art experience from our curated selection and create a personalized keepsake to take home.
WuKang Road
WuKang Road is now a popular spot for visitors, known for its tree-lined streets, architecture, and artsy vibes. We’ve selected a few of the most interesting buildings to show you and explain what makes them unique. And, of course, we’ll visit the iconic WuKang Mansion, also known as the “Little Flatiron”, arguably the most famous building in all of Shanghai!
