Terracotta Warriors
The Terracotta Warriors are one of China’s most important archaeological discoveries and one of Xi’an’s most iconic historical sites. Built more than 2,000 years ago for Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of a unified China, the underground army was created to protect him in the afterlife.
The site contains thousands of life-sized soldiers, horses, and chariots spread across several excavation pits. Pit No. 1 is the largest and most impressive, with rows of warriors standing in military formation. Each figure has different facial features, hairstyles, clothing, and ranks, reflecting the remarkable craftsmanship of the Qin Dynasty.
Discovered by local farmers in 1974, the Terracotta Warriors are still being excavated and restored today, offering a fascinating glimpse into ancient China’s military power, beliefs, and imperial ambition.
